ISRO has developed and standardized satellite bus architecture to meet the communication, broadcasting and meteorological service demands. The satellite platform has excellent heritage built over three decades of building and operating satellite for meeting India’s national requirement. The activities have resulted in the emergence of distinct ISRO satellite platforms namely I-1K Bus for meteorological/special service/ limited application payload having 1000 kg plus lift off mass, I-2K Bus for 2000 kg plus lift off mass, I-3K Bus for 3000 kg plus lift off mass and I-6K bus for 6000 kg class of satellites.
Salient Features of ISRO’s Satellite Platform/ Bus
- Geostationary spacecraft with I-1K/I-2K/3K/I-4K/I-6K bus structure.
- Mission life of 12-15 years for target spacecraft mass (based on lift off mass and propellant requirement)
- Compatible with ISRO’s GSLV and commercially available launch vehicles as per customer requirement.
- Structure with modular configuration (independent payload, bus and propulsion modules)
- Multiple fuel tanks option based chemical propulsion system with higher area ratio LAM.
- Li-Ion batteries for the required eclipse support
- Sensor system with high accuracy.
- CCSDS based TM/TC system
- Solar panel deployment mechanisms using standard 8/6 hold down
- Multiple Antenna deployment and pointing mechanism to perform pointing function
- Various combinations of DGR, Single shell reflectors accommodation possible with provision for payload antenna mountings on EV top.
